The GPS in your vehicle is rendered completely useless unless it has the latest directions and maps installed on it. The new map discs are released annually, and the 2019 version has recently launched. Dec 17, 2017 No map displayed. The standalone navigation option has a map displayed, 3D buildings in supported areas, etc. This standalone is the one that can be updated via the usb drive upgrade purchase. If you are paying for onstar turn by turn when you already have the built in navigation then I’d look into changing packages as it is redundant.

Can I Get a Free GMC Navigation System Update?

The company that develops GMC navigation updates is called HERE, formerly known as Navteq. In the past they have run various promotions on their products, including free updates for Volvo drivers, no shipping charges, and seasonal discounts.

To check for their latest offers and to see if there are any free deals at the moment. We cannot guarantee that any current discounts or GMC navigation discs will be available on a free update, but it’s worth checking.

Insert the USB stick into any available USB slot in the infotainment system or center console. The navigation system will recognize the USB as a map update and ask whether you would like to update. Touch Update. The navigation system screen will inform you that navigation and weather will be unavailable during the update.

GMC Navigation DVD Download

Currently HERE do not offer download versions of the discs and DVDs. You will find plenty of websites and forum posts though from people who have attempted to download hacked or copied versions of the official discs.

We don’t recommend that you do this, as it could end up damaging your vehicle’s GPS system, and could also mean you end up inadvertently installing viruses on your computer, PC, or Mac – it really isn’t worth the risk. It is also illegal.

Product Installation (2015 Chevrolet Silverado for Reference)

Step 1: Raise the upper and lower glovebox doors to gain access to the glovebox mounting screws

Step 2: Remove the two glovebox mounting screws located across the upper glovebox trim panel

Step 3: Remove the two glovebox mounting screws located across the lower glovebox trim panel

Step 4: Gently pry the lower glovebox away from the dashboard gaining access to the area behind

Step 5: Disconnect the wiring attached to the factory infotainment control module

Step 6: Gently remove the factory infotainment module from its dashboard mount by pulling forward

Step 7: Slide the Rostra SoftTouch OE infotainment control module into the factory dashboard mount

Step 8: Gently pry the dashboard side panel away gaining access to route the GPS antenna harness

Step 9: Lift the factory speaker grill to gain access to the factory GPS antenna mounting location

Step 10: Place the GPS antenna into the factory location, connect it to the navigation module and close the grill
