2001 Toyota Tacoma replaced rear axle bearing twice already truck has less 90000 miles. In both incidents it has ruined the internal parts of the axles causing damage to the carrier case. I bought a 3 rd trd axle at a wrecking yard to find the same problem in that axle. I was fortunate I was not involved in a accident. The rear axle could of locked up on the highway causing a serious accident or death related to axle failure.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2010 Toyota Tacoma 4

Vehicle is a 2010 Toyota Tacoma dbl cab, the transmission searches for the right gear to accelerate in once the speed gets 15mph or lower and you press the gas peddle. At 1st it was just annoying, but recently I was turning a corner at a signal light behind another veh. And it slammed on it's brakes, I went to go into the passing lane, but when I accelerated, the transmission didn't respond, it just revs up trying to find the gear. By the time it did, I was watching in my mirror and an oncoming vehicle started hitting their brakes to avoid hitting me. Which wouldn't have been an issue if my truck would have gone when I pressed the gas. This occurs every time you are going at a rate over 25 mph and slow down to at least 15 mph and then try to accelerate again. Crossing highways. I purchased this truck oct. 21, 2009 and had it back to the dealership on Nov 9th, 2009 with this issue, the tech drove it, acknowledged it, and told me all the newer vehicles are that way, & have had others come in with the same issue. Nothing else has been done to try to fix this. I believe this could lead to potential accidents and injuries, if not worse.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma 6

In December of 2008, I purchased a brand new 2009 Toyota Tacoma from harr Toyota for about $30,000. This truck was a 4x4 off road, and came with all of the extra options that could be offered. The truck included a 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty and a lifetime power train warranty. Since I travel often for work, the truck would remain garaged for the next few months, away from the elements of the winter. In July, after returning from a business trip, I started to notice that on the highway, the truck had an unusual odor, and when the gas pedal was applied, the smell would get worse. I brought the truck in to be looked at by harr Toyota service department, where the transmission was immediately refused to be covered under warranty due to corrosion. ¿ historically, Toyota has had many issues with corrosion and the immediate refusal for coverage shocked me. They claimed that the truck appeared to have been driven through a body of salt water coincidentally on the transmission only. After repeated attempts to get Toyota corporate to review my case, they claimed that they came to see the truck, and denied coverage. As my research showed, they had not actually come down, and had just spoken to the dealership on the phone. On the next attempt at a Toyota inspection for coverage, it was determined that I had to pay $441. 00 for them to take the transmission down, and then coverage was once again denied. . After numerous calls, and insulting conversations with demeaning and sarcastic customer care representatives, I have given up and feel that Toyota may have gotten the best of me.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma 7

2009 Tacoma 4 cyl. 5 speed manual trans 4 x4. Clutch started slipping at 5000 miles, at 15,000 slipping badly. Brought to dealer who refused to recognize the problem as a warranty issue. Dealer wanted authorization for repair costs of $480 -$1000 before they would disassemble and inspect the vehicle to determine if a defect exists. Dealer is looking for a blank check, only to call the defect a wear issue and charge customer for repair rather than accept a lower warranty reimbursement from Toyota. Driver has had 4 previous Toyotas and all had manual transmissions . Vehicles logged between 161,000 and 191,000 miles and never needed a clutch replacement.

In extreme cold temps, single digits or below zero, the clutch will not return or returns very slowly. Returned to dealer for service and did not find any problems. They advised to return when temp is colder.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma 9

A chirping sound began being emitted from the transmission. The chirp was present at all times except when the clutch was depressed. The problem was diagnosed as a throw out bearing wiggling on the pilot shaft. The throw out bearing scored the pilot shaft. A new throw out bearing was installed and the pilot shaft smoothed with emory cloth. This solution solved the problem immediately, but within a year, the same chirp returned. The throw out bearing is again vibrating on the pilot shaft.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma 10

This is a follow up to a previous complaint regarding difficulty shifting particularly from 1st to 2nd. After sending three certified letters to Toyota (the last sent to the president's office) I finally, more than 6 months later, received a written response. Perhaps because of the reasons I cited for my failed mediation attempt (in particular being given bad advice, which, at the time, I naively accepted, by the Toyota factory trained specialist on how to prepare for the mediation) I was granted a second attempt at mediation. The transmission continues to behave in the fashion I previously mentioned. I simply cannot understand why it is 'normal' for the gears to intermittently clash (and the colder it is, grind) when shifting. I have been driving 5 speeds for more than 2 decades.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma 11

My 2005 Tacoma has had a clutch squeal since it was brand new. Toyota has replaced 2 clutches after 2 release bearing failures in less then 1 years time. After the second clutch the squeal came back within 3,000 miles. The dealer lubed the slave cylinder / clutch fork intersection point. After several trips from 48 hrs to 1 month intervals they lubed it numerous times. Fed up I informed them I would not be coming in constantly to have the transmission lubed. They replaced the slave cylinder and clutch fork. Within 48 hrs the squeal was back. After having the vehicle in for a Toyota field tech to look at the replaced the clutch return spring. Within 24 hours the squeal was back. During all the incidents I contacted Toyota to keep them informed of the issues. The latest call resulted in escalation as I have requested replacement of the transmission as there is apparently a defect in the casting of the transmission or an internal issue. Toyota called me back to say they would work out a plan with my dealer to fix the vehicle. (this is after 13 trips to the dealer for the same problem between repairs and lube trips. ) I was informed I would be called back no later then Thursday Nov 14th. As of this point there has been no contact and I'm taking legal actions.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma 12

When shifting from 1st to 2nd, there is an inconsistent and unpredictable mechanical sensation that varied from a mild yet distinct rough transition (creating the perception that I was forcing the gears) to a dramatic mechanical sensation of gears changing (at times accompanied with a clicking sound). I returned to the dealership to have the master technician (mt) drive the truck and see if he was experiencing what I was experiencing. He shared that he could feel the gears and said he could replace the transmission if the factory trained specialist (fts) agreed it needed replacing. Fts drove the truck with me and did not feel that there was anything abnormal about the shifting (vehicle operates as designed. . . ). Because the present shifting sensation makes you feel like you are forcing or grinding gears when shifting from 1st to 2nd, this is a safety issue given I can tend to be more focused on the shifting from 1st to 2nd than on driving and it is uncertain whether the transmission will possibly fail while I am driving the truck. I have owned at least 5 or 6 five-speed vehicles. I have also worked on transmissions. In all my experience with 5-speeds I have owned, I have never experienced a shifting problem like I am presently experiencing. This is a brand new, supposedly, quality Toyota vehicle and it unquestionably seems that something is not right with the transmission. I am currently in arbitration.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2003 Toyota Tacoma 13

The clutch on my 2003 Toyota Tacoma became jammed while trying to shift in the middle of an intersection. The bushing where the clutch pivots dislodged and jammed the clutch so it was unable to be depressed. A car was coming straight into the side of my vehicle when I stomped on the clutch as hard as I could, breaking the bushing and letting the clutch depress. If I had not acted quickly it could have been a fatal accident. This was on a highway intersection. I took it in to Toyota and they did not tell me the bushing had broke and was missing they just put grease on it so it would stop squeaking. I just found out this year at Toyota that the bushing had exploded and fallen out and now the warranty has expired. I am more concerned about someone else being stuck in a situation and not being able to get their vehicle in gear.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma 14

I purchased a Toyota Tacoma 2006 new and from day one had problems with the vehicle over revving on start up, which is very damaging to an engine in cold climates. It also between shifting from 3rd to 4th, and 4th to 5th gears the rpm's will not come down to enable one to shift properly and not only makes for a road dangerous condition but it also causes damage to the entire drive train. I've been unsuccessful at trying to take care of this problem with Toyota, quite frankly they have a very bad attitude with this whole matter and to give you an example, I was told by one dealership that maybe I should learn how to shift faster. Please assist me .

This all comes after a transmission replacement at 6271 miles and rear brake work on the vehicle at 6558 miles. This truck is like a lemon.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma 20

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Tacoma with manual transmission. The contact stated that when driving at any rate of speed in fourth gear, the transmission would intermittently switch into neutral without warrant. When placed back into fourth gear, the vehicle would function as normal until the failure would recur. The contact stated he would experience the failure at least once each time the vehicle was operated. The dealer advised the vehicle was not under recall and would not offer any assistance. The contact parked the vehicle and was no longer operating it. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000 and the current mileage was approximately 15,000.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma 21

My 2005 Toyota Tacoma used to lunge forward and accelerate while stopped. It happened over the several years I owned it. I reported this to the dealer and they ignored me. I would always make sure I had the brake depressed hard while stopped.

Manual Transmission problem of the 1997 Toyota Tacoma 22

Date of purchase Toyota of somerset reported this was a second buyer. They reported a lady had owned the vehicle. Through carfax I found me to be the 5th owner. They did not have the warranty information in with the manual information. They did not supply this at time of purchase and has not offered upon request. They said they would honor the service. Upon the reverse coming out there was disagreement and the service manager, mr. Turpin and mr. Johnson were very adamant and refused to honor the mfg. Warranty on the drive train. They first asked $700 and then negotiated for $450. Which I refused. Needless to say we do not have any correspondence but I still have to drive without reverse in my vehicle. This is why I did not report the lug nuts breaking and causing my wheel to fall off and causing damage to the truck. Toyota of somerset does not offer assistance and accuses abuse.

1993 Toyota Truck Manual Transmission Won

When accelerating in 2nd gear there is a bad vibration(2000-2500 rpm). It also 'clunks' when shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear. The higher the rpm the worse it 'clunks'. Vehicle purchased in November 1999. Taken to dealer twice regarding problem. Dealer says it is 'normal'. I am concerned that the transmission synchronizers are worn out and want to get problem resolved while covered under 60,000 mile drivetrain warranty.

Why is it so hard for me to shift gears? Especially from a stand still, shifting int first gear as well as the other 4. Some have told me it is hydrolic, is this true. If not would you please give me some help of how to adjust the clutch.

Dear scrodney-- Help is available in every town at a transmission specialist. Your problem with your 1998 Toyota Tacoma can be as simple as low fluid level or using the wrong fluid. Or, it could be a major transmission with the internal part of the transmaission itself. Let a pro look at it and try to avoid reacting on advice from some well meaning friend. Good luck from Bovan.
