Ok, so i'm new here and have a 2000 E38. After doing much reading I downloaded INPA 3.01 and installed it. Anyways, for the diagnostics, besides engine and tranny, do I need a serial--> 20 pin diagnostic cable or serial--->OBD cable? And where can I get one of these cables?.I am just starting, but i'd like to become very familiar with INPA and DIS, and then maybe learn to use NCS expert. BTW, my IBM laptop has both serial and USB ports.

Ok, I figured it out. I ordered an 'Ediabas INPA OBDII Interface Cable for BMW'. It comes with both the OBD to serial and the 20-pin diagnostic plug to OBD. My other question is why do those who use the carsoft cables need the 'box' (the one with the lights on it) between the car and the computer? From my understanding all I need now is the USB to serial adapter, with the drivers, and to edit COM1.

As the title states, I'm looking for a current source for INPA 3.01. Looking to set up an old Dell D620 (w/ serial port) running Windows XP as a diagnostic computer for older cars that require the ADS interface (E30, E31, E34, E36, etc).
Gonna use a TinyADS interface...just need to find the right software, and I hear that INPA 3.01 would be the best for this purpose. All the download links I find when searching are all dead, so does anyone have a working, and safe download link? Thanks in advance!
